Summer Gala - Saturday 25th June 2005, 1pm-4pm

St Peter’s Church Centre, Lake Lock Rd

This years Gala was the most successful ever, raising £2,550 for church funds. From the photo below you can see the large numbers of people that attended and enjoyed the event, which took place thankfully under cooler skies that the previous Saturday!

Fun at the Gala

A highlight of the afternoon was the new café in the Church Centre which was open for business for the first time.  Volunteers have been working for many months to get the café ready: wiring, plumbing, plastering, decorating, and fitting the brand new professional units and equipment.

The Gala was officially opened at 1pm by the Very Rev George Nairn-Briggs. During the afternoon, the Stanley Starlights Majorettes gave two displays of synchronised marching and baton twirling; the Christine Popple School of Dance presented excerpts from their shows, and at the end of the afternoon, the Normanton Dog Training Club gave a demonstration of dog obedience, agility and ingenuity.  The Purple Jazz Band under the leadership of Julie West also entertained the crowds throughout the afternoon.

The Grand Raffle was a considerable success and raised £990. Thanks to all those who sold the tickets, and of course, those who bought them.

We are particularly grateful to all the local businesses and individuals who contributed the wonderful prizes including: Gledhill’s butchers, the Spindle Tree, the Co-op store on Lake Lock Road, Red’s hairdressers, Moss Chemist, Kev’s fish shop, Lilac Beauty Salon, Patel’s corner shop, Moohouse Stores, and the Thatched House.  Thanks also to John Janusz, the manager of the Co-op supermarket in Outwood who permitted us to sell tickets there, and also thanks to John Walker the milkman for providing the cream for the cream teas, as he has done in previous years.
