St Peter's Church Summer Gala 2010. Held on Saturday 26th June 2010, 1-4pm

The annual St Peter’s Summer Gala was held on Saturday 26th June in the field next to the Church Centre. The event raised £2,028 which was amazing, especially given the current economic climate. We are really grateful to everyone who gave so generously and who came along in such huge numbers to make it a really successful event.

Of course the glorious weather helped enormously and the stallholders were grateful for the shade offered by the gazebos that were erected over each of the stalls. Many thanks to everyone who put the gazebos up and then took them down again at the end of the day. Thanks also to those who cleared the ground of litter earlier in the week and sorted out all the items that had been donated, and cleared up after the event had finished.

The gala was officially opened at 1pm by Mr Lee Wilson, the head teacher of St Peter’s School. There were lots of stalls to visit: tombola, cakes, books, toys, bric-a-brac, children’s tombola, sweets, bottle tombola, greetings cards, jams and preserves, and plants, as well as several games and activities. Refreshments included a BBQ, pop and crisps, and cream teas—many thanks to everyone who worked so hard cooking on the BBQ and serving in the café.

During the afternoon, spectators were treated to some fantastic entertainment in the central arena: the Stanley Starlights Majorettes, the Christine Popple School of Dance, and the always popular Normanton Dog Training Club who gave a wonderful demonstration of dog obedience, agility and ingenuity.

The Grand Raffle was a great success and raised £413. Many thanks to everyone who bought and sold the tickets. Thanks also to the local business and individuals who donated prizes: the Thatched House, the Co-op in Stanley, Blades Hairdressers, Kev's Fish Shop, Lilac Beauty Salon, Charisma Hair Salon, Butterfly Beauty Salon, Stanley Café, Mr Reehal at the Corner Shop, the Wheatsheaf Public House, Mr & Mrs Sunderland, and everyone who contributed to the food hamper.

The whole gala was a very happy and successful event. A huge thank-you goes to all the organisers, stall-holders, and above all, everyone who came along and supported the event.
