One of the mysteries of our faith is prayer. God
already knows what we need and is willing and able to help us, yet asks
us to be involved by talking to Him through prayer. For Jesus
and the disciples there was never a question whether to pray, only how
to pray. A definition of contemplative prayer I like is
”a life of loving attention to God”.
This year we have felt the challenge to encourage each other to pray
more. We have recently had a period of 24 hours when there
was continuous prayer in the church, and experienced a real sense of
God’s presence. We have added 2 extra times to pray
regularly at 6 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Church Centre, when
anyone is welcome.
On the back of the magazine there is a list of useful telephone
numbers. A big thank you to Glenda Oakes who has led the
Prayer Chain for 10 years and is now taking a break. If there
is a sudden emergency and you would like to ask for prayer, then ring
the Vicarage on 822143. The prayer need will be quickly
passed down the Prayer Chain and in this way up to 10 people can be
praying about a particular concern very quickly. We would
like more people willing to pray to join this scheme, particularly
those who might be around during the day. Please ring me if
you would like to be involved.
It may be that you would like myself or one of our team to visit and
pray: again ring the numbers given on the back of the magazine.
We also list people who would like to be prayed for on our weekly
notice sheet. This means they can be prayed for during the
Sunday service but also we encourage the congregation to take the
notice sheet home and use it to guide their prayers at home.
To be included ring the Church Office: 835746. There are
people available to pray after every morning service. We have
witnessed wonderful answers to prayer and having a sense of
God’s love enfolding us.
Let’s make the most of this amazing invitation to meet the
living God in prayer.
