magazine.
For many people September is a time of change and new
beginnings.
This is certainly the case for families, like ours, with children. They
may be starting a new class, school or college. It can be
difficult for our children who leave a familiar environment and move
into the unknown. What will the new teacher be
like? Will I
make any friends? As parents we accept and welcome these changes as
being helpful and beneficial. They are part of growing up and
important for our children’s development.
There
are a few new beginnings coming up for the church this term that I
think are interesting. There is a visit by Janey Lee Grace on
Saturday 23rd. The event is at the Community Centre and
starts at
7.30pm. She is well known to some as a Radio 2 presenter and
if
you want to find out more visit her web site www.janeyleegrace.com. She
is coming to sing and chat about her life and faith.
Our Harvest Festival weekend 6th-8th October will take the Creation as
its theme. There will be a special service on the Friday
evening,
and during Saturday there will be a display of various crafts and
hobbies: an exhibition of local peoples’ talents and things
that
they have created. There will be a Ceilidh with music and
refreshments in the evening. Throughout the weekend there
will be
a special ‘Creation Experience’: an audio-visual
display
about the creation.
The weekend finishes on Sunday 8th October with our Harvest Festival
service, which is also our special ‘Back to Church
Sunday’. I would like to invite you, whether you
have been
to church before or not, to come and join us for this weekend of
celebration.
A new activity starting soon at the Church Centre is a Film
Club.
Entrance will be free, and further details will develop as we discover
what people want, but we hope there will be some refreshments and a
time for discussion for those that want it.
There are lots of opportunities for making new friends, renewing old
friendships and building community. Please come and be part
of
this exciting time.
